Reporter Michael Bridge has told Sky Sports News (Tuesday, 1:23AM) that is Brighton could agree a contract extension with Leandro Trossard – it will not rule out a move to Tottenham, but that Spurs will have to pay a bigger fee for him.

Trossard, 28, has had a hand in 10 goals in 16 Premier League appearances for Brighton this season. Scoring seven goals and laying on three assists, he has been superb for Brighton. But he has failed to play in his side’s last two games.

He is out of contract at the end of the season. But, rumour has it that Brighton have activated a clause in the Belgium international’s contract. It will extend his current deal until June 2024. The Mail say Tottenham want to sign Trossard.

Bridge, who is a renowned Tottenham fan, gave an update on Trossard and Tottenham’s interest in the winger. He says that Spurs want to sign an attacking midfielder that can play on the left – and an extension will not deter Tottenham.

“The key here, Brighton have the option to extend his contract to the summer of 2024. What we are looking into, is if Brighton have exercised that. It doesn’t mean that he would stay at Brighton, but that they would get a higher fee.”

Bridge: Trossard extension will not rule out Tottenham move this month

With Brighton yet to announce the extension of Trossard’s contract, as things stand, he will leave on a free in the summer. But the Seagulls are very unlikely to let that happen. They do have a decision to make though, this month.

Do they extend his contract and perhaps, ruin their chances of bringing in a fee for Trossard. Then, have a disillusioned player on their hands who fails to provide the same form. That would mean he would go for a smaller fee in the future.

Or, do they decide not to extend his deal, and sell him this month to the likes of Spurs – while his value is high because of his stunning form? Extension or not, Spurs are interested and have a real chance to land the ex-Genk star.
