Bayern Munich are in talks to sign Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur but Didi Hamann has his ‘concerns’ over a deal to bring the Premier League benchwarmer to Germany.
Hamann’s doubts have nothing to do with Eric Dier’s ability.
The England international, he says, possesses many of the attributes Bayern Munich are looking for in a centre-half; a physical presence and bags of discipline on and off the pitch.
But, having barely kicked a ball in anger during a forgettable half-season under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur, how long would it take Dier to get up to speed at the Bundesliga champions?

Tottenham’s Eric Dier in Bayern Munich talks
Hamann, speaking to Sky Germany, believes there is a very real chance that Bayern would not see the best of Dier until next season at the earliest.
“I have my doubts as to whether he will help Bayern,“ the former Liverpool, Newcatle United and Manchester City midfielder begins.
“Four or five years ago, he had a really good spell. Back then, he was an integral part of the national team. This year, he hasn’t played a role, only had four appearances.
“In terms of profile, he’s a player (Bayern Munich) need. He’s strong in the fight, good in the air, very disciplined. It remains to be seen whether he’s in the condition to help Bayern at the moment. If you have six months where you haven’t played or barely played, then you need two or three months to get back into the rhythm.
“If he needs two or three months, then the season is almost over. That’s why I have concerns.”
A Harry Kane reunion on the cards
HITC Football understands that Bayern have held talks with Dier. The versatile defender could reunite with former Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane in Bavaria. Thomas Tuchel knows Dier from his time in the Premier League, with Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah another name under consideration.
Tottenham are unlikely to stand in Dier’s way either. His contract is due to expire in the summer, while Spurs remain in talks to bring in the £26 million-rated Radu Dragusin from Genoa as a likely replacement.
Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon are also expected to depart, HITC has been told.
