Son Heung-min enters his second season as Tottenham Hotspur captain and he will be hoping it results in a trophy.

The South Korean star has been at the club for close to a decade and you feel he needs silverware to back up his goals and on-field performances.

Harry Kane and Son formed a quite stunning partnership during their time in the Premier League, before Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer departed for Bayern Munich.

Under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs improved from Kane’s last campaign at the club, including scoring more goals (70 to 74).

That surprised many because, when Kane left, some predicted the London club to struggle and perhaps fall away further.

Paul Merson completely changed his mind about Postecoglou’s Tottenham midway through last season, but now they have to kick on.

Tottenham have secured the transfer of Archie Gray, which is a positive step forward, but you feel they need that bonafide number nine.

Not someone to replace Kane, as such, that will never happen, but for a striker to come in who can work well with what’s around him.

Tony Cascarino is backing Ivan Toney to just that, but he also feels he could be a fit for West Ham United, as he told talkSPORT.

Sources have told HITC Tottenham’s transfer stance on Toney, with Arsenal and Atletico Madrid also keen on the England international.

Toney was part of the England squad at this summer’s Euros, but Cascarino still feels he will only fetch a transfer price of £40 million and he explained why he would thrive alongside the likes of Son and Brennan Johnson.

“Good question really,” said Cascarino about who Toney suits, Tottenham or West Ham. “I personally think Toney could fit both, as long as you play a runner off him.

“When you are buying a centre-forward that leads the line and he is useful with flick-ons, holding the ball up and bringing players into play. You are looking for movement beyond. Both of them clubs have that. They have the runners beyond.

“Bowen can do it for West Ham. Son can do that and others. Brennan Johnson, he can run beyond. They have that. I wouldn’t say one is a preference for me. I don’t think he will go for £50 million. I would go more likely £40 million. There might be add-ons to get to £50 million. What’s Ivan now? 28? There is a player there you can utilise and get a lot from. A useful player for somebody.”

Ivan Toney is ready for the step up

What didn’t help matters for Toney was his ban last season for betting breaches and his return, in January, meant that he had no rhythm or form to his game.

In truth, he was lucky that Gareth Southgate selected him for part of England’s Euro 2024 squad because his form wasn’t deserving of it.

Despite that, the 28-year-old is still highly-regarded and his previous work in the Premier League hasn’t been forgotten about.

Toney has been dubbed a ‘ruthless character’ and been backed to sign for Arsenal, as you feel he could be one of the names to move late on in the window.
