Tottenham Hotspur are returning to Europe next season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will be joined in the Europa League by Manchester United after their FA Cup final win pushed Chelsea down to the Conference League.

At the start of the season, Chelsea and Tottenham were the only top sides without any European football after their very poor campaigns.

For large parts, it could be argued that Spurs had the better season, including sitting top of the Premier League table after ten matches, but they faltered during the final months.

Chelsea ended up winning their last five matches and finished three points behind their London rivals.

Ahead of the summer transfer window re-opening, both clubs are under a lot of pressure to make it a successful window, with Tottenham needing that depth in quality.

Daniel Levy has been urged to back Postecoglou in the transfer market and the Australian did express that players need to be brought in.

One man who has been constantly linked with Spurs is Conor Gallagher and sources have told HITC that Chelsea are reluctant to offer him a new deal and he could now leave.

Jason Cundy stated it’s ‘no secret’ that Gallagher is going to leave amid that Tottenham interest and he feels Pochettino’s exit could have played a part in that, as he told talkSPORT.

That opens the door for Tottenham to secure the services of the England international who will be hoping to make the cut ahead of Euro 2024.

“They are Head Coaches now, that’s what it is, that’s the coach that they want,” said Cundy. “If we want to sell players, then we are going to take players.  You forget about the other side of it. You concentrate on what you have in the squad and get a team ready for the weekend. That’s what it sounds like.

On Conor Gallagher’s future being one of the stumbling blocks for Pochettino leaving: “Feels like it, doesn’t it?!” responded Cundy. “That’s what it feels like, but that’s not secret. It feels very similar to what we saw last season with Mason Mount. They couldn’t agree a deal. I was a little disappointed in both that it fell the way it did. But if you can’t get a deal done and he is worth a lot of money off the books. Something like £60-65 million for Mason.

“I don’t know what Conor is going to go for. But he is a homegrown player and that’s a strategy from the club. He has got an energy about it him. They all play him. Southgate loves him and what he gives you – he must be a joy to have in the squad because you can rely on him.”

Conor Gallagher is perfect for Tottenham

The 24-year-old plays with high energy, is brilliant at winning possession high up the pitch and can make late runs into the box by scoring goals.

Just going by the make-up of Gallagher as a player. He is perfect for Postecoglou and his all-action system.

That’s why it shouldn’t be any surprise that Spurs want to bring him in and he can also fill several roles, if need be.

Chelsea fans might not want to see the back of Gallagher, but they might now have to wait and watch him succeed elsewhere.
