The former Tottenham Hotspur boss worked with Danny Rose when he was a teenager.
Speaking to Squawka during a live Facebook Q&A session, former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood explained how he encouraged Danny Rose to convert from a midfielder to a left-back when the Tottenham star was just 15-years-old.

The 26-year-old defender has gone on to fully establish himself as one of Europe’s finest attacking full-backs, and has become a vital component to the manner in which Mauricio Pochettino expects his team to play.
And Sherwood, who spent five months in charge of the Lilywhites during the 2013/14 season, explained why he convinced Rose to switch positions when he moved to White Hart Lane as a 15-year-old, when speaking to Squawka during a live Facebook Q&A session:

“I spoke to Danny Rose at Tottenham as a 15-year-old, and I suggested to Danny – he was always a midfielder – that he’d have a better opportunity to play at the top level in the Premier League, and certainly for Tottenham, as a left-back. I felt that he should do that role and try to adopt it. He was very reluctant – he didn’t want to do it, his agent didn’t want him to do it either. But I was just looking at the pathway ahead – at the likes of Van der Vaart, Modric, Gareth Bale, who were all ahead of him in those positions.”

It seems as though that advice from Sherwood has paid off for Rose, the club and his country, with the left-back going on to earn 12 caps for the England national team.

There were reports circulating last month that both Manchester United and Manchester City were interested in signing the left-back (the Sun), and that serves as evidence of just how far he has come in the game over such a short period of time.
