Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel personally wants to sign Tottenham Hotspur summer transfer target and Everton winger Anthony Gordon, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has told GiveMeSport that it is Tuchel who is driving Chelsea’s interest in Gordon, described as “a player who is very explosive” by former Everton manager Rafael Benitez in The Liverpool Echo in October 2021.

Earlier this month, The Chronicle reported that Chelsea have made a bid for Gordon, which Premier League rivals Everton turned down.

Football.London reported over the weekend that Tottenham are keen on signing the English winger and are monitoring the development over the future of the 21-year-old.

Phillips told GiveMeSport: “It’s Tuchel who’s definitely driving it again. And I think he’s looking at the fact that Gordon can play as a right-wing back as well as a right winger and also in the nine.

“So, that’s three positions that Tuchel wants to sign players in in the remaining two weeks of this window.

“So, Gordon can cover three of them, and I think that’s where the serious interest comes in, and I think largely, he’d probably be used as a right-wing back.”

Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur for Everton winger Anthony Gordon?

In our opinion, Chelsea have a better chance than Tottenham Hotspur in regard to signing Anthony Gordon from Everton in the summer transfer window.

The Toffees are reportedly asking for £50 million for the winger, and given that Tottenham are well stocked in attack at the moment and spent £50 million on Richarlison earlier this summer, we do not think that they are going to pay so much money for a 21-year-old.

If Thomas Tuchel personally wants Gordon, then the Chelsea hierarchy are likely to get a deal done, or at least try their best.

And we know that Chelsea do not hesitate to spend big in the transfer windows.
