Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea made a bid for Everton winger Anthony Gordon after learning that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United were in talks over signing him, according to The Chronicle.

The report has claimed that Chelsea have made a bid of £40 million for Everton winger Gordon.

The offer went in on Sunday afternoon, according to the report, which has added that Newcastle’s discussions with Everton over a £35 million fee for the winger ‘alerted Chelsea with high level talks following swiftly’.

Could Chelsea sign Newcastle target Anthony Gordon from Everton?

In our view, Chelsea could be able to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton ahead of Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, but they would have to pay more than the £40 million they have offered.

There is speculation that Chelsea’s opening bid has been rejected, and that the former Premier League and the UEFA Champions League winners plan to come back with a new offer.

Described as “a player who is very explosive” by former Everton manager Rafael Benitez in The Liverpool Echo in October 2021, Gordon is only 21 and will improve in the coming years.

Everton will surely not want to sell a homegrown player this summer, but money talks.
