Many Arsenal fans had the same reaction after seeing Kylian Mbappe posing with Thierry Henry on Twitter yesterday.
What’s the story?
Mbappe and Henry had met and the image was picked up on by numerous Arsenal fans.
Immediately the Gunners supporters couldn’t resist joking about getting Mbappe to the Emirates Stadium.
Now, the chances of Mbappe arriving at Arsenal any time soon appear to be extremely unlikely, even despite his current contractual situation.
But Arsenal fans still enjoyed seeing the image of Mbappe with arguably their biggest legend of the modern era.
Mbappe on the move?
Mbappe may well be on the move from PSG in the near future, as he still hasn’t penned a new contract, and a switch to the Premier League is said to be appeal.
But Arsenal unfortunately wouldn’t have the money or the standing in the modern game to attract a player of his level right now.
Arsenal did actually apparently have a chance to sign Mbappe, when Arsene Wenger was in charge, but no move materialised at that stage.
Mbappe now looks most likely to join Real Madrid, although Manchester City and Liverpool have also been touted as potential destinations for the French striker.
Arsenal, meanwhile, may have to set their sights a little lower – although the purchase of a striker does appear to be on Arteta’s wishlist.
Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Dominic Calvert-Lewin who, while not being of Mbappe’s quality, would enhance the level of the Gunners’ attack significantly.
