Harry Redknapp thinks Aston Villa will ‘certainly’ improve under Steven Gerrard next season and he also backed them to ‘bring in a few more players’ during the 2022 summer transfer market.

Before the 2022 summer transfer window could officially open, Villa were already bulking up their squad by making the signing of Philippe Coutinho a permanent one from Barcelona.

They then seemingly beat off competition from Atletico Madrid for the signature of Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara, as well as bringing Sevilla’s towering centre-back, Diego Carlos, to the Midlands.

More faces will arrive at Bodymoor Heath with pre-season starting next month, as Villa aim for a return to Europe next term.

When former Birmingham City boss, Redknapp, was asked whether he can see Villa and Wolves improving next season, this is how he responded, as he told talkSPORT.

“I think Villa can (improve again),” said Redknapp. “I wouldn’t be on Wolves, at the moment.

“I think Villa certainly under Steven Gerrard. They will bring a few more players in and they could certainly improve their position.”

WHO WILL VILLA SIGN NEXT?

It wouldn’t be a surprise if, during these coming weeks, there are more outgoings than incomings from Villa, as the squad under Gerrard takes shape.

Mahmoud Trezeguet is close to the exit door at Villa Park, with Trabzonspor keen on the Egypt winger, after his successful loan spell in Turkey with Istanbul Basaksehir.

Bertrand Traore, Morgan Sanson, Anwar El Ghazi and possibly Douglas Luiz are other names whose futures will be discussed.

But, with Matt Targett now a Newcastle United player, then Lucas Digne needs competition at left-back, whilst it wouldn’t be a surprise if another defensive-minded midfielder, striker and centre-back are brought in.
