Lucas Digne posted ‘welcome’ on his Instagram story, as Aston Villa signed Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer.
The drama of the 2021/22 Premier League season isn’t even 24 hours old, yet Villa are already looking towards next season – and so they should be.
The Midlands side were right at the heart of it on Sunday, when they let a 2-0 goal slip that saw Manchester City win the Premier League title.
But that’s all forgotten about now for Steven Gerrard and Co, as they have made a statement of intent by securing the defensive talents of Kamara on a free transfer.
Villa weren’t the only ones keen to sign the 22-year-old because Atletico Madrid and Newcastle United’s names were also heavily being thrown around.
Either way, this is a much-needed signing for Gerrard because the club have been crying out for a defensive-minded midfielder for a long time.
Added with that, it probably puts into doubt the future of some players, including a certain Morgan Sanson.
Sanson only managed ten Premier League games this season, both under Dean Smith and Gerrard, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he heads for the exit door.
Villa brought in his talents from Marseille during the January transfer window, but injuries and a lack of game time have resulted in his career stagnating in B6.
Those in Claret and Blue will be hoping Kamara has a much different impact because Villa will be pushing for Europe next term.
