Speaking on BT Sport’s coverage of Liverpool vs Villarreal (27/3/22 7:45PM), Michael Owen has been discussing Thiago Alcantara and his incredible run of form for Liverpool.
The Spanish midfielder has been earning all sorts of plaudits in recent weeks after sensational performances against Manchester United and Everton, and he was at it again on Wednesday evening.
Thiago was once again in fine fettle against Villarreal, and according to Owen, there isn’t a single player who has upped their game in recent times like Thiago.
Indeed, according to Owen, Thiago is the most improved player in the world this season.
What’s been said?
Owen spoke about Thiago.
“There’s nobody that has upped their game in recent times like Thiago. A lot of people questioned whether or not he was the right style of player to play in this team, but he’s shown a different edge in recent times. We saw his stats there, he’s not a player who just passes it sidewards all of the time, he takes risks as well. The last few games he’s been absolutely sensational,” Owen said.

Always had it
Thiago may have had a slow start to life in English football, but anyone who watched him play for Bayern Munich will know that he’s always had this in his locker.
Sadly, last term he struggled. Perhaps that was down to a lack of fans in stadiums or Liverpool’s unparalleled injury crisis – whatever the reason was, it seems to have subsided now.
Indeed, these days Thiago is looking like the best midfield player on the planet, and he’s even been labelled as such in recent days.
The Spaniard has finally hit his stride at Liverpool, and as Owen says, he’s been one of the most improved players in the world this season.
