Darren Bent thinks that Marcelo Bielsa is going to leave Leeds United at the end of the season, as per his comments on TalkSPORT.

Bielsa on the way out?

Bielsa’s future at Leeds has come into sharp focus after what has been a difficult start to the campaign.

The Whites have been ravaged by injury and it has clearly affected their form.

With Bielsa only penning one-year contract extensions, his future is always heavily speculated about.

But this year there is a really genuine fear that his time at Elland Road is coming to an end.

And Bent feels that his inability to change Leeds’ playing style actually deserves some criticism.

“I’d like to see Bielsa at times be a bit more pragmatic. Change your tactics a little bit, don’t go so gung-ho and go man for man all over the pitch,” Bent said.

“When you play the top teams, especially when you don’t have your top players in the team, you’re going to get battered and that’s what happened.

“I think this will be the end of his time at Leeds at the end of this season because he’s been at Leeds longer than anywhere else.

“But I do think at times you have to be able to adapt as a manager. I know you have your principles, I know you want to play a certain way, but if things aren’t working and you haven’t got the players to do what you have to do I think you’ve got to maybe change a little bit.”

Is Bent correct?

It is hardly the first time that Bielsa has come under fire for failing to be more defensive at Leeds.

But the Argentine boss will surely argue that his principles have taken Leeds further than any other manager in recent memory.

It is difficult to see how any squad would have coped with the injuries that Leeds have suffered this season, let alone one with as few options as the Whites.

Despite Leeds’ struggles this term, Bielsa still carries a huge amount of support at Elland Road and there is still reason for optimism.

Leeds, after all, aren’t in the relegation zone currently and they should be stronger when key players like Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips return to full fitness in the new year.
