Liverpool fans may remember the name Talles Magno from last summer’s rumour mill.

The Reds were heavily linked with a move to sign Magno last summer as the club eyed up cheaper signings.

No deal was done in the end as Liverpool managed to structure together for Diogo Jota, leaving Magno to stay in Brazil.

Magno had shown real promise with Vasco da Gama, but the 18-year-old attacker once compared to Neymar started to find life tough.

Brazilian media reports suggested that Magno had lost his way, and had been surpassed by other Vasco teenagers.

A move to Liverpool seemed a million miles away, but he has now made a move – and it’s roughly 5000 miles away.

New York City FC have confirmed the signing of Magno on a five-year deal, meaning he will be heading to the United States rather than the Premier League.

Magno may have missed out on a Premier League move, but the door isn’t entirely closed; Manchester City are an affiliated club with New York City FC, so an impressive spell in Major League Soccer could yet see him join Liverpool’s rivals.

For now, Magno needs to prove himself in America having regressed in Brazil, and only time will tell whether Liverpool return for him in the future.
