Atalanta’s reported decision on Takehiro Tomiyasu is good news for Nuno’s Tottenham Hotspur, but bad for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Here’s how.

Good news for Tottenham Hotspur

Calciomercato are reporting that Atalanta are about to pull out of the race for Tottenham target Tomiyasu.

Atalanta are unable to match the €25 million (£21.49 million) transfer fee that Bologna are asking for the Japan international central defender.

The Serie A club are planning to pull out of the race for the 22-year-old and will make their decision in the next few days.

This is good news for Nuno’s Tottenham.

Spurs will now have one fewer team to compete with for Tomiyasu, who can play as a central defender or as a right-back.

West Ham United and Arsenal are interested in the youngster, but, according to Tutto Bologna, Spurs have agreed provisional terms with the defender.

We covered that report here on HITC Sport this week.

Bad news for Liverpool

Calciomercato claim that Atalanta’s decision on Tomiyasu means that they plan to hold onto Cristian Romero.

After all, the Italian side, who will play in the Champions League next season, will not want to lose the 23-year-old Argentina international central defender and not sign a replacement (Tomiyasu).

This is bad news for Klopp’s Liverpool.

Sky Italia reported last month that Liverpool have made a move for Romero.

As we covered the report here on HITC Sport, the Reds have asked about the situation of the youngster at Atalanta.
