Stewart Robson has claimed that Arsenal transfer target Moises Caicedo wouldn’t get Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea in the top four next season.

The Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder will be hoping to follow in Alexis Mac Allister’s footsteps this summer and that’s head for the exit door – the World Cup winner joined Liverpool.

Former Arsenal player Robson shared that Moises Caicedo is a ‘very good player’, but Chelsea have so much more to do if they are to make a return to the Champions League, as he told ESPN.

Before Pochettino, who was appointed as the club’s new manager, can bring in new faces this summer, he has to sort out and get rid of a jam-packed squad.

You would think that would help Arsenal because they can swoop in and try to secure his talents, but instead, they are still trying to get number one target Declan Rice through their doors.

After spending over £100 million on Enzo Fernandez in January, Robson was asked if he and Caicedo would be a good enough midfield partnership to help Chelsea return to the top four, but he wasn’t sure.

“Not just by himself,” said Robson. “They have got to get their tactics right, they have to make sure that they get rid of the right player, then get the right players on the field.

“Yes, he’s a very good player, playing alongside Enzo Fernandez, he can receive the ball, twist and turn away from challenges. He knows where his next pass is. He’s agile as well. He makes them a better team.

“But they have got to get rid of a whole load of players, get a shape so they know what they are trying to do and start from there, but I still think they are going to struggle to get top four, at the moment.”

Will Rice fee dictate Caicedo transfer?

The latest news on Rice is that West Ham United have rejected a second bid from Arsenal of £90 million for their captain, as reported by Sky Sports.

If he leaves for over £100 million, and it looks like he will, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if Brighton ask the same for Caicedo – Arsenal and Chelsea have both expressed interest in his talents.

Yes, they sold Mac Allister, a World Cup winner, for £35 million, but it seems as though he had a release clause in his contract.
