The World Cup has been taking place for the last month, but travelling fans are still learning a lot about America during their stay.

From the culture, the food, the stadiums and now the drinking laws, much of life in the United States is different to what supporters from around the globe are accustomed to.

Now, English fan Oliver Henry has commented on the ‘strange’ alcohol laws in the United States.

Alcohol laws in America confuse English fan

Taking to his X/Twitter account, Henry admitted that trying to figure out exactly when he could buy certain alcohol from stores in the country was ‘all a bit confusing’.

Henry also mentioned that the laws are very different from England, where you can buy alcohol ‘at any time’.

He explained: “One thing that I can’t get used to in America is the alcohol. In England, you could buy alcohol at any time from any supermarket and even corner shops, whatever.

“But in America, there are certain times when you can’t buy alcohol, and it’s dependent on each state. So when I was in Boston, you couldn’t buy beer from the supermarket, but now I’m in Texas, you can buy beer and wine from the supermarket, but you can’t buy whiskey on Sundays.

“Now it’s 9:55, and we’re waiting for this liquor store behind me to open so we can buy whiskey.

“It’s all new to me because each state has different laws, and I don’t know if everyone in America knows each state’s different laws or if they’re just learning as they go like I am. But it’s all a bit confusing how different each state is with all these tiny little differences because in the Texas supermarket, you can also buy cocktails in the supermarket, but you can’t buy the things needed to make the cocktails like tequila, whiskey, etc.

“So I don’t get the law there, but I’m getting used to it, and we’re gonna get some in a minute, but it’s just strange.”

Henry has recently been spending time in Texas, where he praised American food highly.

Following his journey via X, he is now having a short stay in Nashville before he heads to Atlanta to watch England take on Argentina in the semi-final of the World Cup.
