West Ham have agreed a deal for Javier Hernandez.

Former West Ham player Steve Lomas has said that Javier Hernandez would be a great signing for the Hammers.

Earlier this week, West Ham have confirmed that they have agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of the Mexican striker.

The club didn’t disclose the details of the deal, but according to The Telegraph, it is worth in the region of £20 million.

The Mexican didn’t have a £13m release clause on his contract, contrary to reports, and so, West Ham have had to negotiate a deal for the 29-year-old.

West Ham chairman David Gold has confirmed on social networking site Twitter that Hernandez will be flying to the UK for a medical within the next few days.

Lomas believes that Hernandez would be a “great signing” for the club, and would represent a bargain signing.

“You can look at his goal-scoring record wherever he has played and £13m is a snip,” said Lomas in an interview with Bwin.

“Even at international level, he’s scored nearly 50 goals in less than 100 appearances so he definitely knows where the back of the net is.

“He was harshly treated at Manchester United and Jose Mourinho has repeatedly said he wouldn’t have let Hernandez leave the club.

“Hernandez is only 29 and he knows the Premier League – for me, clubs have got to be signing these players. If West Ham got someone like Javier Hernandez, it would be a great, great signing.”

He adds that West Ham lacked a plan B last season, and Slaven Bilic is looking to rectify that problem by targeting players like Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, who can offer pace upfront.
