West Ham have agreed a deal for Mexican striker Javier Hernandez.

West Ham chairman David Gold has confirmed on Twitter that the Hammers have agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen over the transfer of Javier Hernandez.

As usual, the club didn’t disclose the transfer fee, but according to the Telegraph, the Hammers have agreed a deal of around £20m.

Hernandez didn’t have a £13m release clause on his contract, contrary to reports, and so West Ham have had to negotiate a deal for the 29-year-old.

Gold confirms that Hernandez will be arriving in London in the coming days for a medical and to sign a contract before joining up with the West Ham squad on pre-season tour in Austria.

Hernandez has scored 48 goals for Mexico in 96 games, and he became the all-time leading scorer for his country in May this year.

The Mexican, widely known by the name Chicharito, scored 59 goals in 156 appearances for Manchester United after arriving at Old Trafford in 2010, before joining Leverkusen in 2015.

His signing would be a significant boost for West Ham manager Slaven Bilic who is planning a new-look attack with Chicharito supporting Michael Antonio and Marko Arnautovic.
