Micky van de Ven did not train with the rest of Wolfsburg’s first-team on Friday as Tottenham Hotspur close in on a deal to bring the talented centre-half to the Premier League.

The transfer window closes in less than a months’ time and, as is traditional at Tottenham these days, their head coach appears to have very little idea what his squad will look like come September 1st

Will Harry Kane, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ivan Perisic and Davinson Sanchez still be at his disposal? And will Tottenham’s famously cautious chairman Daniel Levy resist the temptation to drag out any potential incomings until the final day, in an attempt to knock a few pretty pounds off their price-tag?

Reports from The Athletic’s David Ornstein suggesting that Micky van de Ven should fly in for a medical sooner rather than later should, at least, answer Postecoglou’s call for at least one new addition to his defensive ranks.

Tottenham close to signing Micky Van de Ven

Tottenham, Ornstein adds, are ‘on the verge’ of agreeing a potential £43 million deal with Wolfsburg.

What’s more, Van de Ven was conspicuous by his absence as Niko Kovac’s charges took to the training pitch on Friday. The Braunschweiger Zeitung newspaper reports that Van de Ven, who joined from FC Volendam back in 2021, was training on his own, and may not feature in the friendly clashes against Sassuolo and Celta Vigo over the weekend.

Van de Ven will reportedly sign a six-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He effectively replaces Clement Lenglet; Spurs opting against signing the Barcelona misfit on a permanent basis despite a semi-successful loan spell.

The London giants are also making rapid progress in their pursuit of another young talent. 19-year-old striker Alejo Veliz is joining from Argentinian football for around £13 million, even if his Rosario Central head coach appears to have reservations about the move.

“I’m just worried about him,” Miguel Russo tells TYC. “(I hope) that he’s calm, that he’s fine and that whatever has to happen has to happen.

“He’s a boy He’s 19 years old, and I talk to him constantly.”
