Micky Van de Ven has agreed to sign a six-year deal at Tottenham Hotspur with a £38 million move to the Premier League for the Wolfsburg defender now ‘very close’.
Just last week, The Athletic provided an update on the progress of Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven pursuit. And the news was that, well, there was no ‘progress’ at all; Ange Postecoglou’s wait for a new centre-half rumbling on without even the briefest hint of light at the end of a dark and dingy tunnel.
But, in what will come as a major relief to not only the Spurs supporters but also their new head coach, it seems that a breakthrough has been reached in recent days. Better late than never, right?

Tottenham finally close in on Micky van de Ven
The Van de Ven deal appears to have gone from ‘stalled’ to ‘imminent’ in the brink of an eye. Fabrizio Romano did not go as far as to utter those three magic words – a ‘here we go’ still not forthcoming – but it appears that some positive steps are being taken at last.
“Tottenham are close to reaching an agreement with Wolfsburg for Micky Van de Ven,” Romano writes. “Deal advancing to final stages now.
“There are still details to sort but talks are underway. The agreement could be done soon. Personal terms, 100 per cent agreed.”
Tuttomercatoweb, on Thursday morning, provided a few more tasty nuggets of information. Van de Ven has reportedly agreed a six-year deal until the summer of 2029. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg’s arm has been twisted by a new and improved offer from North London; Tottenham offering to pay up to £38 million for the Dutch U21 international, with bonuses included.
The new Jan Vertonghen
22-year-old Van de Ven, who moved to the Bundesliga from FC Volendam from 2021, ticks about every box imaginable as far as Spurs are concerned.
At 6ft 4ins, he possesses the power and physicality, as well as an extreme burst of pace. Van de Ven is also a natural left-footer – replacing former Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet – and boasts the passing range and the technical ability required to thrive in Postecoglou’s proactive, build-from-the-back approach.

A Jan Vertonghen regen, anyone?
“We have to talk to VfL first,” Van de Ven’s agent said a month ago. “(But) I think Spurs would be a good move for Micky.”
