Tottenham Hotspur signing Fraser Forster appears to be a done deal.
Spurs are in the market for a back-up goalkeper to Hugo Lloris and honestly, Pierluiigi Gollini hasn’t worked out and Antonio Conte has told the player he won’t be signed on a permanent basis from Atalanta.
It was reported for a long time that Tottenham were set to sign Sam Johnstone as a cover option for the France international next season.
But now it looks like the Southampton giant – who stands at 6’7 – is coming to North London.
According to The Athletic, Forster will not be included in the Saints’ squad today ahead of joining the Lilywhites next week.
As far as number twos go, this is a cracking option and someone who could even challenge Lloris for his number one shirt, with the England international now Southampton’s first-choice stopper.
In fact, Forster has even blown away a certain Lionel Messi.
During his time at Celtic, the Newcastle-born goalkeeper had some sublime performances against Barcelona in the Champions League.
And here’s what Messi said via The Mirror: “The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them.
“The performances of Forster against us were talked about for a long time. There was one game in Scotland where he was not human, it is the best goalkeeping performance I have seen.”
Much better than Johnstone
Tottenham Hotspur signing Fraser Forster is genuinely exciting, a much better option than Johnstone.
In years gone by, Spurs would’ve been in massive trouble had Lloris been injured for a while, such was the lack of quality behind the former Lyon star in the pecking order.
But now there looks like being a proper option to replace Lloris and, as mentioned, perhaps even challenge for his jersey.
Anyone who can produce performances like the ones he’s had against Barca is a very gifted goalkeeper and it’ll be fascinating to see how he fares at Hotspur Way.
