West Ham United boss David Moyes has now decided to scrap a move for West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone – who is thought to be Tottenham-bound.

That’s according to The Times, who claim that Moyes has now decided against bringing Johnstone to East London.

The Sun reported in March that a move for West Ham to sign Johnstone was ‘a long way down the line’.

However, it now seems that Moyes has pulled the plug on any move and Johnstone won’t be joining West Ham.

Johnstone is out of contract this summer and is set to leave West Brom.

Steve Bruce has now benched Johnstone in favour of David Button, signalling the end of his time at The Hawthorns.

England international Johnstone will be appealing on a free transfer, but West Ham have seemingly backed away from the race.

The same report adds that West Ham are now looking towards Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope as they eye a new stopper.

Lukasz Fabiański turned 37 on Monday and Alphonse Areola is only on loan, so Moyes is keen on adding a new goalkeeper.

West Ham decision surely makes Johnstone Tottenham-bound

If Johnstone isn’t going to West Ham then it looks increasingly likely that he will be heading to Tottenham this summer.

Reports suggest that Tottenham are confident a deal for Johnstone will be done having decided against a January deal.

Tottenham are sending loanee Pierluigi Gollini back to Atalanta this summer. Hugo Lloris will need competition and Johnstone ticks the boxes.

Free agent, international player, homegrown and with Premier League experience.

That’s ideal for Tottenham, and Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle has praised the goalkeeper as ‘outstanding’.

Beating West Ham to a signing is always nice for Tottenham, and it looks like Johnstone will be picking North London over the East of the capital.
