Southampton want to sign Josip Brekalo as Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur submit a £22 million bid for the winger’s Torino team-mate Wilfried Singo, as reported by Tuttosport, via TorinoGranata.

The phrase ‘victims of their own success’ comes to mind.

Torino are just two games away from securing an impressive top-half finish in Serie A but repeating the trick in 2022/23 will no easy task.

Star striker and talismanic captain Andrea Belotti is due to depart on a free transfer this summer.

Granata coach Ivan Juric, meanwhile, admits that coveted centre-half Gleison Bremer is expected to follow in Belotti’s footsteps.

And, according to Tuttosport, this is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Tottenham bid for Wilfried Singo

The report claims that Tottenham have stepped up their pursuit of rampaging Ivory Coast international Singo, a powerful, attack-minded right-wing back who suits Antonio Conte’s 3-4-2-1 formation down to the ground.

Spurs are understood to have submitted a bid in the region of £22 million.

Fabio Paratici, Tottenham’s managing director, scouted Singo during his time at Juventus too, per Fabrizio Romano. The 21-year-old has contributed seven goals and assists from a nominally defensive position this term, and would replace Emerson Royal in Conte’s starting XI.

Emerson is reportedly in talks over a return to La Liga with Atletico Madrid.

Southampton, meanwhile, are planning a Serie A raid of their own, in Singo’s Torino team-mate Brekalo. The Saints are keen on the lively Croatia international, a versatile and skilful forward who’s been compared to the legendary Arjen Robben due to his penchant for cutting inside from wide areas before firing pot-shots at goal.

Torino are ready to exercise the £11 million purchase clause in the Wolfsburg loanee’s contract. Southampton will have to hand Juventus’ near neighbours an immediate and sizeable profit for a man who’s arrival will help offset the departures of Nathan Redmond, Moussa Djenepo and Theo Walcott.

Brekalo has six goals this season.
