Liverpool are big fans of Gleison Bremer but the Torino defender may be better suited to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur if those comments made in an interview with DAZN are anything to go by.

After all, Jurgen Klopp’s side have almost exclusively played with a back four in recent seasons. Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right, Andy Robertson on the left, Virgil van Dijk alongside Ibrahima Konate or Joel Matip in the middle.

Tottenham, however, are growing increasingly accustomed to Antonio Conte’s trademark 3-4-3 formation, five months after arguably the greatest ‘club manager’ in European football was parachuted into the North London hotseat once the Nuno Espirito Santo experiment had blown up in Daniel Levy’s face.

Now, this is not to say Bremer, one of the most talented defenders in Italy, cannot alter his game and adapt to an unfamiliar system should the £21 million-rated Brazilian join a Premier League giant in the upcoming summer transfer window.

But adapting to life in a new league, and a new country, is difficult enough without having to get used to a new style of play too.

Liverpool or Tottenham?

Goal reports that Liverpool are keen with Joe Gomez’s Anfield future uncertain. According to Tuttosport, a Tottenham side who signed two players from Torino’s city rivals Juventus in January scouted Bremer during a 1-1 draw with Serie A champions Inter Milan last month too.

Bremer was at his usual colossal self that afternoon. He scored from a corner while marshalling Inter’s forward line with trademark composure and class.

Shining at the heart of Torino’s three-man backline, it is not difficult to imagine the 25-year-old slotting in with ease alongside Cristian Romero at Tottenham.

Particularly after Bremer admitted that, given the choice, he’d rather play in a three than a four at the back.

“I prefer a three-man defence,” he admits, via Football Italia. “Because it’s in line with the system with which I’ve proven myself.”

According to Goal, Inter lead the chase to secure Bremer’s £21 million-rated signature. The Nerazzuri have held talks with the former Atletico Mineiro defender already.

And, in what could be a major boost to Inter’s prospects, Simone Inzaghi shares Conte’s preference for a defensive triumvirate.
