Southampton could sell Theo Walcott, Moussa Djenepo and Nathan Redmond in the summer transfer window with the Premier League trio all set to become free-agents in 2023, as reported by The Athletic.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s oh-so inconsistent side appear to be in the midst of a transition.

On one hand, Southampton have some of the most exciting young players in the division, including Kyle Walker-Peters, Tino Livramento and – should he stay – Armando Broja. They also have the foundations of a solid Premier League stalwart; James Ward-Prowse, Che Adams, the excellent Stuart Armstrong.

But this Saints side also feels like one in need of a bit of freshening up. A dash of extra quality to supplement the likes of Ward-Prowse, Walker-Peters and co.

Especially with Shane Long, Fraser Forster and Jack Stephens out of contract in the summer. Oriol Romeu, Moi Elyounoussi, Yan Valery and the aforementioned trio – Walcott, Djenepo and Redmond – are also entering the final 12 months of their current deals.

And, according to The Athletic, Southampton will listen to offers for Walcott, Djenepo and Redmond when the transfer window opens at the end of this campaign.

Who will Southampton sell this summer?

Of the three, Walcott is perhaps one least likely to earn a new deal.

At 33, the former England international is far older than his two St Mary’s team-mates – a decade Djenepo’s senior – and has played just one minute of Premier League football since the turn of the year.

The academy graduate, who returned for a second spell on the South Coast after a disappointing stint at Everton, has not scored a goal or provided an assist in 12 first-team games across 2021/22 either.

And, in a blow to Walcott’s hopes of earning an extension, Southampton appear to be in the market for another attacker. A younger, fitter, faster player perfectly suited to Hasenhuttl’s high-octane style.

Southampton are keen on Red Bull Salzburg forward Chukwubuike Adamu. The Saints also held talks with former Shakhtar Donetsk winger Tete before he joined Lyon last week.
