- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Timo Werner is due to fly to London ahead of his move from RB Leipzig to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur, sources have told HITC Football.
The former Chelsea player is due to have his medical on Sunday after personal terms were agreed and final details of a loan were finalised on Saturday evening.
HITC can also reveal that Tottenham will be covering wages and then have an option to buy at the end worth 18m Euros, which is around £15.5 million.
Timo Werner returning to London
The 27-year-old will be returning to familiar territory after his two-year spell at Chelsea, where he won the Champions League – HITC Football also previously reported how the likes of Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Fulham and West Ham United showcased interest in the player.
You feel there were still question marks above Timo Werner’s head when he left during the summer of 2022 and he will have a lot to prove upon his return.
During his time in England, he scored 23 goals and supplied 21 assists for Chelsea, including winning the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
And now that Timo Werner understands what it takes to make it in the Premier League, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he settles in far quicker, to Tottenham’s benefit, than he did when he first moved to Stamford Bridge.

Timo Werner under Ange Postecoglou
The key thing here is that Ange Postecoglou wants him and he suits his style.
Tottenham play one of the most exciting brands of football in Europe. Their attacking players, and even fullbacks, are like the red arrows.
It’s no-fear football, with players darting forward, attacking the penalty area and causing havoc for the opposition in the final third.
This attacking style is far more offensive than the one Werner played in for Chelsea.
Added to that, the German international could argue that he has a better quality of players around him, which would take the spotlight off him.
The likes of Son Heung-min, who is out on international duty for the Asian Cup, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski are carrying that goalscoring burden – the soon-to-be Spurs star has already shared his thoughts on Son.
Not forgetting the returning James Maddison, so all of this just helps Werner even more because the 57-cap international will settle in quicker, playing alongside better players and in a system that suits his tunnel vision style.
