This is shaping up to be a rather memorable season for Arsenal.

The Gunners started incredibly slowly, losing their first three league games, but a brilliant run of form since September has seen them rocket up the table, and it looks as though they may claim a spot in the Champions League for the first time since the Arsene Wenger era.

There have been plenty of standout performers for Arsenal thus far this term. Emile Smith Rowe is matching Cristiano Ronaldo on the scoring charts, Gabriel Martinelli has blossomed in recent weeks, while Takehiro Tomiyasu has taken to life in the Premier League like a duck to water.

However, while all of those players have been excellent, in our view, there’s one early frontrunner for the Gunners’ Player of the Season award right now.

The man we’re talking about is Aaron Ramsdale.

Eyebrows were raised in the summer when Ramsdale, off the back of two relegations with Bournemouth and Sheffield United, signed for the Gunners for £25m, but he’s already proven to be worth the money.

Indeed, Ramsdale has won the Gunners’ Player of the Month award for each of the last two months, while he’s also been nominated on two occasions for the Premier League Player of the Month.

He’s earning praise on a weekly basis, whether he’s being described as ‘incredible’, or getting credit from the likes of Peter Schmeichel and David Seaman, while he’s already pulled off a number of saves that are worthy of even the greatest goalkeeper’s highlight reel.

Arsenal first handed out their Player of the Year award in 2006, and no goalkeeper has ever won it, but that could all be about to change.

Emile Smith Rowe may have something to say about it, but, for our money, Ramsdale has been Arsenal’s top performer so far this term.
