Some Aston Villa fans are keen to see Graham Potter appointed instead of Steven Gerrard.

Better than Gerrard?

BBC Sport claimed yesterday that Aston Villa do really like Potter, as they look to replace Dean Smith.

Although there are fears at Villa Park that he may not want to leave Brighton & Hove Albion he is highly respected by the Midlands club’s hierarchy.

And it seems that many Villa fans actually believe Potter would be a better appointment than Gerrard.

Gerrard still favourite

Despite fan opinion, it seems that Aston Villa have settled upon Gerrard as their top choice (Telegraph).

That being said, it is easy to see why Potter would be such a popular appointment at Villa.

Not only does he support the claret and blues, but he also has far more Premier League experience than Gerrard.

Potter’s Brighton side have progressed hugely under his stewardship and his stylish brand of football has been highly impressive.

The Seagulls are now competing in the top half of the Premier League table and their brand of football has earned great plaudits.

Gerrard has also done an impressive job at Rangers, where he has completely transformed their fortunes.

However, Aston Villa are taking a risk if they give the job to a manager with no Premier League experience.

Villa hardly have the luxury of giving whoever takes charge time to bed in.

Smith has left the club on the back of five straight defeats, with Villa sitting just above the drop zone, and a big improvement in their form will be needed to take them away from trouble.
