Hayley McQueen has said live on Sky Sports News that Glasgow Rangers are set to hold further talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst now.

Second round of talks imminent

Rangers and Steven Gerrard parted company last week and Van Bronckhorst quickly became one of the favourites to land the job.

The Dutchman made Rangers aware of his interest in the post in the early days after Gerrard’s departure and was rapidly interviewed by the Ibrox side.

However, in the days since, Rangers appear to have been looking at other candidates.

The Light Blues are yet to settle on their first choice, although Sky’s latest update suggests that good progress in being made.

And Rangers are now set to talk with Van Bronckhorst again, as they narrow their shortlist down further.

“News from Scotland concerning Rangers. Sky Sports News have been told that Giovani van Bronckhorst is holding further talks with Rangers about the vacant managerial position,” McQueen revealed.

“It’s understood he’s not the only candidate though and the club are pleased with the progress that they are making.”

Quick appointment not likely

The likelihood of Rangers having Van Bronckhorst in before their next game seems to be reducing by the hour.

The Scottish Champions are next in action against Hibernian in the League Cup semi-final at the weekend, but it may be their interim management team are in charge for that contest.

Rangers have spoken about the need to get the appointment right already and don’t want to rush into making a mistake.

If they were to go with Van Bronckhorst he could have plenty of positives though.

Not only does he know the club well having represented the Ibrox side during his playing days, but he has also won a league title when in charge of Feyenoord during his burgeoning managerial career to date.

Rangers are currently four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, giving whoever takes charge a chance to get off to a silverware winning start in their first season.
