Rangers may be looking for a new manager very soon – and Giovanni van Bronckhorst is believed to be keen on replacing Steven Gerrard.

That’s according to The Scottish Sun, who claim that Rangers boss Gerrard is now expected to leave the club for Aston Villa this week.

That would leave Rangers absolutely rocked and needing to find a manager quickly – something they can’t have been prepared for this season.

It’s claimed that Van Bronckhorst would be keen to take the job, throwing his name into the hat early on.

The report even claims that van Bronckhorst would look to make Jan Wouters his assistant manager at Ibrox.

Wouters was the Rangers assistant from 2001 to 2006, before then working as Van Bronckhorst’s assistant at Feyenoord.

Van Bronckhorst, 46, spent three years as a Rangers player before joining Arsenal in 2001.

As a manager, Van Bronckhorst won 107 of his 176 games in charge of Feyenoord. That’s an impressive 61% win rate, whilst he won the league title once and the domestic cup twice.

Van Bronckhorst’s last job was in China with Guangzhou R&F, winning just seven of 23 games in charge.

The Dutchman being out of work should appeal to Rangers, as should his affinity to the club and being a title-winner in the past.

There may not be many better candidates than Van Bronckhorst, and Rangers should absolutely target him if Gerrard does leave.
