Clinton Morrison has backed Tottenham to sign Nick Pope and compared the Burnley goalkeeper to Arsenal’s ‘outstanding’ star, Aaron Ramsdale.

Tottenham have Hugo Lloris as their main man between the sticks, but he is 35-years-old and the north London club need to look to the future regarding his replacement.

Could that come in the form of Pope? He was relegated with Burnley on the last day of the Premier League season – West Ham are an interested party in the £40 million player.

Last summer, Arsenal signed Ramsdale following his relegation with Sheffield United, and since then, he has been one of the club’s best players, so having relegation on your CV shouldn’t be off-putting.

Either way, former Palace striker, Morrison, backed Pope to head towards Spurs in the summer, as he told Sky Sports News.

“Look when Ramsdale went to Arsenal,” said Morrison. “Everyone was saying ‘is that the right thing to do?’ And Ramsdale has been outstanding at Arsenal.

“So, Pope has been just as good as him. Someone would take him. I know Lloris is still there, but why not Tottenham?”

POPE NEEDS SUMMER PREMIER LEAGUE MOVE TO MAINTAIN ENGLAND PLACE

Pope is an England international and if he wants to maintain that spot, ahead of the 2022 World Cup, then he needs to leave Burnley in the summer.

The 30-year-old just needs to look at his England counterpart – Ramsdale – who has actually further enhanced his place on the international stage by joining Arsenal, after suffering relegation.

There’s no doubt that Burnley will command a big fee for him, but, at the end of the day, they are in the Championship, so they are powerless from that position.

But with Spurs entering the Champions League road again, Lloris’ age and their on-loan back-up this season – Pierluigi Gollini – not impressing, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the club do fish for that goalkeeper.
