The Rangers youngster is out of contract at Ibrox next summer and fits the criteria of player being linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
Rangers’ Barrie McKay is booked
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a string of British youngsters in recent weeks, many of whom have entered the final 18 months of their contracts.
A range of players – from defenders (Harry Maguire, London Evening Standard) to strikers (Andre Gray, Telegraph) and attacking midfielders (Ross Barkley, also Telegraph) – are said to feature on Spurs’ summer shortlist, as they pursue the top emerging talents at knock-down prices.
How long, then, until Rangers’ Barrie McKay enters the equation?
The 22-year-old, a natural in Barkley’s role but who can also play equally well on either flank, has been one of the few positives of a below-par campaign for the Gers, who appear destined for a third-placed finish – or worse.
The Daily Mail last month reported that Rangers intend to open talks with McKay regarding a new contract, with his existing one also up in 2018, although there has been no official update as yet.
And, as the summer fast approaches, Gers fans will no doubt be growing concerned about the Scotland international’s future, especially given the January reports linking him with a move to RB Leipzig.
Tottenham’s Erik Lamela has been absent since October
A number of clubs south of the border are also said to be keen, such is McKay’s promise, and with Erik Lamela’s White Hart Lane career also uncertain, it would be little surprise if Spurs were one of them.
Would Rangers’ McKay be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?
