The Saudi Pro League wasted no time in reigniting the famous debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
They are the greatest football players of the 21st century, if not all time, with respect to Pele and Diego Maradona.
Messi had a much better 2026 World Cup, with eight goals and four assists, whereas Ronaldo only scored twice.
Messi was also more impactful four years ago, carrying Argentina to their first World Cup trophy since 1986.
However, Ronaldo fans will never give up the debate and continue to find ways to make it a major talking point.
The Saudi Pro League has just become the latest to support the 41-year-old after Messi’s shortcomings in the World Cup final.

Lionel Messi had a relatively quiet game against Spain, as the European champions dominated possession.
The 39-year-old never really had a chance to score, which could make his defeat to Spain even more frustrating.
The Saudi Arabians have since decided that Messi’s defeat is a valid reason to support Ronaldo and reignite the GOAT debate.
Given that Ronaldo has just scored 28 league goals for Al-Nassr, they are expected to consider him the bigger superstar.
However, even though they have huge respect for one another, their two fan bases can never agree to disagree on who is better.
Whether Al-Nassr’s now-deleted social media post about Ronaldo, captioned with a goat emoji, was intended to annoy Messi supporters is unclear.
But the former Manchester United legend will likely be pleased that Messi has not doubled his World Cup tally at 39.
“The Roshn Saudi League would like to congratulate Spain on winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” another post read from the Saudi league.
Like most passionate football fans, they have failed to remain impartial in a contentious debate where they may be slightly biased.
