Watch Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney celebrate Wrexham’s recent promotion on an open top bus with players and staff.

The Wrexham end-of-season party was in full swing recently as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney joined in with celebrations on an open top bus parade.

Wrexham were officially promoted back to the Football League for the first time in fifteen years this season after Phil Parkinson’s team finished with a league record 111 points.

The Welsh club has had two promotion this season, as Wrexham Women have also been promoted to the Adran Premier, the highest league for women’s football in Wales.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney celebrate Wrexham promotion on bus

On Tuesday (2 May) thousands of fans lined the streets in the northeast Wales city to celebrate both Wrexham AFC’s men’s and women’s teams getting promoted.

Three buses left from the club’s Racecourse ground along a 3.5-mile route around the city which allowed fans to join in with the celebrations.

Players from both the men’s and women’s teams could be seen on top of the buses, along with Ryan and Rob.

The pair also revealed their Premier League plans

Of course, attention now turns to League Two and whether the club can seal back to back promotions. However, Reynolds and McElhenney appear to have even bigger ambitions, and haven’t ruled out reaching the Premier League one day.

Deadpool actor Reynolds told S4C: “Of course our aim is to reach the Premier League. Why not? If it takes five years, or 20 years, that’s the goal. The most challenging thing about that would be the need to revamp the stadium, but that would be a really nice problem to have.”

McElhenney added: “From our point of view, this is a march towards the English Premier League. Nobody believes that it will be easy or that it is going to happen in the next few years.”

However, Ryan insisted Wrexham’s long-term future would always remain front and centre.

“Ultimately, like any business, you want it to be able to self-perpetuate and continue growing. You don’t want to lose money, but I don’t think either of us are in this to make money either,” he said.

“It’s just about growing the best possible club and finding value in any place that we can find value, whether that is financial or emotional, sometimes it can be indistinguishable.”
