Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney celebrated their first promotion as Wrexham owners after Wrexham AFC Women recently clinched promotion back to the top-flight.

Wrexham AFC have undergone a major transformation since Hollywood movie A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club back in 2021.

The club has continued to go from strength to strength with the actors at the helm, and now the pair have experienced their first promotion with the club.

Wrexham Women clinch promotion to Genera Adran Premier

On Sunday 16 April, Wrexham Women beat Briton Ferry Llansawel to secure promotion to the Genera Adran Premier – the top women’s football league in Wales.

Wrexham Women had already clinched the Genero Adran North title last month but faced Briton Ferry in a winner-takes-all promotion play-off.

Rebecca Pritchard’s late strike was enough to secure the 1-0 win for The Red Dragons, who will now return to the highest tier of Welsh women’s football for the first time since reforming in 2018.

Wrexham’s squad are also now due to turn semi-professional, making them the first women’s team in the Welsh football pyramid to do so.

Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been proud supporters of the women’s team since taking over. Rob and Ryan weren’t at the game on Sunday, but they made their feelings known by celebrating their promotion on Twitter.

Ryan wrote on Instagram: “Wow. Wow. Wow. PROMOTION!!!!! So proud of this club!!!!!” Rob posted on Twitter: “ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. CONGRATULATIONS @WrexhamAFCWomen!!!!!!!”

Rob also retweeted some photos of the women celebrating their promotion with a series of firework emojis:

Ryan and Rob celebrated with women’s team at record-breaking crowd

Last month, Wrexham’s women team defeated Connah’s Quay Nomads 2-1 to become the Genero Adran North Champions.

They did it in front of a record-breaking 9,511 crowd at the Racecourse Ground, which Rob, Ryan, and Ryan’s wife Blake Lively were in attendance for.

Ryan and Rob could be seen celebrating with the women’s team at full time while drinking champagne as part of the parade.

It now means that a double promotion could be on the cards for Wrexham this season. The men’s team simply have to match or better the results of Notts County until the end of the season to be crowned National League champions.
