Dele Alli to Wrexham has become a talking point in the football world after Sunday’s thrilling National League clash at the Racecourse Ground.
A 97th minute penalty save from Ben Foster ensured Wrexham defeated promotion rivals Notts County by a 3-2 scoreline, putting the Dragons three points clear at the top of the National League with a game in hand.
So, why is Dele Alli now being mentioned in the same breath as Wrexham? Let’s take a look…
Why Dele Alli to Wrexham is trending
Well, the England international hasn’t joined Wrexham if that’s what you were thinking.
However, after another England international in Foster was lured to Wrexham and came up with a massive moment in the title race, many have been tipping Alli to join the Welsh side at one point.
The trend seemingly started after Barstool Sports posted a tweet of Alli next to the Wrexham badge captioned “cue it” – as if to suggest Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will surely attempt to sign the Englishman as they rise up the Football League.
Other fans have also stated that they can envisage Alli playing for Wrexham, as – like Foster – his image in football could work well with the marketing strategy at the Racecourse Ground, where exposure is significant.
The 27-year-old’s career is at a crossroads, to say the least.
Alli left Tottenham for Everton back in January 2022, but lasted just a matter of months at Goodison Park before the Toffees shipped him away on loan to Besiktas in August.
The attacking midfielder has since been dropped by Şenol Güneş at Besiktas after going absent without leave, and according to The Athletic, the Turkish giants will not be activating their option to buy.

So, if Sean Dyche decides that he doesn’t want to try and reenergise Alli at Everton over the summer, you would imagine that the Milton Keynes-born midfielder would have to find a new club.
Joining Wrexham would certainly provide Alli with a platform to rebuild his reputation, and his quality could help fire the Dragons into League One next season – if they do make it to League Two this term.
