Ryan Clark’s firing from ESPN is still sending shockwaves across the industry of NFL media after being informed on Monday of their decision.
Some significant departures have been sanctioned from ESPN over the course of this week, with established names like Tom Pelissero also let go.
The 2026 NFL season is now just weeks away from getting underway and Clark, like many others, is now left looking for his next opportunity in the industry.
Now the dust has settled, the 46-year-old former NFL safety has broken his silence on his firing from ESPN.
Stephen A. Smith has defended Clark against ESPN along with a number of other famous names.
But Clark has laid it all out in an emotional interview on the back of being informed he’d no longer be working for ESPN.

Not everyone has been left upset by the exits at ESPN, with San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa approving Clark’s firing over social media.
However, the former safety has spoken out just days on from being informed he no longer had a job, with an emotional admission on The Pivot.
“For 3 years we never shied away from any topic,” he said.
“We did this year… I couldn’t be too black. What makes me sad is, in even trying adjust to be more of what certain people wanted, they still fired me.”
“Let me put this to bed. I wasn’t laid off. I was fired. [ESPN] is using ‘laid off’ as a cover and a camouflage for what they already intended on doing. But there was no cause for it, right?”
Numerous other ESPN analysts have been ‘laid off’ over recent days; some have been part of the company for decades.
However, there is a sense from Clark’s comments that those at the top of ESPN had been waiting for the right opportunity to move on from him.
Although Clark has now been able to get a lot off his chest, it does feel as if this is a story that is only going to rumble on.
