Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says there is still some work to be done this January

Celtic gaffer Brendan Rodgers is happy with his side’s business so far but admits there is still work to be done should the right deal arise.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes there is still some work to be done on the transfer front this January window, despite getting some early business done.

The Bhoys have added German centre-back Marvin Compper, 32, and wide man Lewis Morgan, 21, to their squad from RB Leipzig and St Mirren respectively, while Hoops youngster Kundai Benyu, 20, made the switch the other way to join Oldham Athletic on loan.

Despite being pleased with their transfer activity so far, Rodgers believes there is still work to be done as Celtic gear up for the second half of the season.

The club are currently still on course for a second treble-winning season in a row, having defeated Motherwell in the League Cup final in November while their UEFA Europa League round-of-32 match up against Roberto Mancini’s Zenit St Petersburg is approaching rapidly.

“Yes,” Rodgers said when asked whether he was happy with his transfer business so far during an interview with Celtic TV, “[but] there is still some work to be done for us, if we think it is the right thing to do.”

Rodgers spoke of the natural move to allow Kundai Benyu to leave on loan to allow the youngster the possibility of some first-team game time, while he spoke of his excitement at developing the highly rated Lewis Morgan in years to come.

On Compper’s arrival at the club Rodgers said, “Marvin was a natural one. With the possibility of losing one of our centre-halves, with some of their records of being injured it was important to bring in someone of that experience.”

Rodgers was referring to the likes of Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic who have both been linked with a move away from Parkhead this January.

Sviatchenko has reportedly been told he can leave and should search for a new club whilst Simunovic has recently arisen as a potential target for Premier League sides Burnley and Crystal Palace, while Serie A side Lazio are the most recent interested club to emerge.
