Danny Murphy has claimed that the treatment of Djed Spence at Tottenham Hotspur is ‘ridiculous’ after being told that Kyle Walker-Peters is a possible summer transfer target, as he told talkSPORT.
It was put to the former England midfielder that Southampton defender Walker-Peters could return to Spurs, as he stalls on a new contract at St Mary’s and how Antonio Conte ‘isn’t blessed’ in that right-sided fullback department.
This despite Tottenham having three wing-backs to pick from – Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and the recently-captured, Djed Spence.

Conte to and fros between Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty, whilst Spence simply isn’t liked because he is yet to play more than half an hour in a single game since his £20 million transfer from Middlesbrough (Sky Sports).
Yes, at 22, Spence is the youngest of the three, with Doherty being 30, but Emerson Royal is only a year older than the Englishman, yet he can’t earn the minutes.
Either way, it seems as though, those at Hotspur Way could be looking to bring in a new face, despite the numbers in that department, and when talkSPORT transfer expert Alex Crook put that to Danny Murphy, the former Liverpool man issued a pretty blunt response.
“On the subject of Southampton, one to keep an eye on, maybe more so for the summer,” said Crook. “Kyle Walker-Peters, who I think is an excellent player, has been capped by England. He is stalling on signing a new deal.
“That has put some pretty big clubs on alert, as I understand. The likes of Manchester United, as they look for an alternative to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Chelsea because Reece James has had injuries, maybe even his old club Tottenham. They’re not exactly blessed in the right-back department.”
Danny Murphy responded: “But Tottenham have got three! They have never given Djed Spence a chance, have they?! (in response to none of the RWBs at Spurs being good enough). It’s ridiculous.
On Spence going out on-loan: “He should, yes. He should get playing.”

WALKER-PETERS WOULD WALK INTO SPURS XI
It’s been three years since Spurs allowed Walker-Peters to leave, and during that time, he starts ahead of every single right-back/right wing-back that has played for the north London club.
From Serge Aurier to Emerson Royal, he is better than the lot and its further proof that it was a mistake to let the player go.
Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier were the standard setters during their time at the club and they certainly haven’t been replaced.
Walker-Peters would have learnt a lot from the senior England duo when he was coming through at Hotspur Way, who he linked up with after earning two caps for his country in 2022.
