Rich Paul believes the NBA missed a key opportunity to protect credible information across its media landscape.
Rich Paul argued the league failed to respond decisively when changes to X altered how information is verified and consumed by fans.

Rich Paul says NBA failed to act after Elon Musk X decision
Rich Paul discussed the issue while speaking on his Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman, reflecting on the moment Elon Musk allowed users to pay for verification on X.
The comments were made on Rich Paul’s Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman and were highlighted in a clip shared on X.
“At that very moment, the league should have been able to carve out something different for platforms and journalists and say, ‘okay, he’s doing that, but this is an NBA verified reporter,’” Rich Paul said.
“That doesn’t mean that, that account has to say everything to your liking. It just can’t be so outlandish to where there’s no truth to it at all, or there’s no substance to it at all. Because there’s some fantasy basketball situations that you have to play, hypotheticals.”
Rich Paul outlines concern over misinformation and accountability
Rich Paul stressed that his stance was not about controlling narratives or silencing criticism. Paul added that the concern lies in the growing volume of unverified claims being presented as legitimate reporting.
He suggested clearer separation between accredited journalists and opinion-driven or speculative accounts would benefit teams, players, and fans alike.
Rich Paul suggested the shift blurred the line between legitimate reporters and unreliable accounts, something that can be seen on the platform.
As social media continues to shape how the NBA is covered, Rich Paul’s comments have added to the wider discussion around responsibility, access, and trust in modern sports media.
