The future of Anthony Davis in Dallas may depend on one powerful figure outside of the Mavericks organization.

While the All-Star big man has settled into his new team, one NBA insider believes that the person shaping his next move is not a coach or an executive but his agent, Rich Paul.

Davis joined the Mavericks in what was one of the biggest trades in recent memory. His arrival created instant headlines and expectations of filling Luka Doncic’s shoes.

But as the Mavericks try to balance their roster and salary cap for the long term, new reports suggest that Davis’ future may already be uncertain.

NBA insider reveals Dallas Mavericks’ stance on Anthony Davis trade rumors

Speaking on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back show, a clip shared by Run It Back captured the latest update.

“I’m on the fence, the messaging there, the Mavs are 100 percent making it clear that they do not have to move him. They don’t necessarily plan to move him,” Sam Amick said.

The report confirmed that Dallas is not actively shopping Davis despite speculation about his future. However, the statement also hinted that Dallas is being cautious about long-term financial commitments, especially given Davis’ injury history.

Davis has been productive since arriving in Dallas, anchoring the defense and averaging elite numbers in points and rebounds.

For now, the franchise seems committed to keeping its new star and giving the partnership time to develop before making any major decisions.

Rich Paul’s influence looms large over Anthony Davis’ next step

The conversation on Run It Back shifted toward the agent who may ultimately shape Davis’ next chapter.

“The other X factor that you guys are well aware of is Rich Paul, AD’s agent, is looking at this and saying, ‘Alright, we need an extension, that’s not happening here,'” Amick continued.

He concluded, stating: “So there is, for sure, pressure being applied from Rich’s side like it’s time to find a better position for him.”

Rich Paul, the founder of Klutch Sports Group, has long been one of the most powerful figures in basketball. He has managed Davis’ career since his New Orleans days and engineered his move to Los Angeles to team up with LeBron James, a partnership that delivered an NBA title.

Now, his focus appears to be ensuring that Davis secures a long-term deal in Dallas or elsewhere if negotiations stall.

While the Mavericks want to keep Davis as part of their core, any hesitation about a max extension could reopen the market for one of the league’s elite big men.

For Davis, the challenge is balancing loyalty to his new team with his long-term ambitions.
