West Ham could now reportedly miss out on Borussia Monchengladbach star Breel Embolo after a deal to sign Arnaut Danjuma collapsed, with AS Monaco launching a bid for the Swiss international.
According to Sky Germany, the Ligue 1 side have made an opening offer to sign the 25-year-old attacker, with West Ham reportedly also interested in Embolo this summer with Gladbach open to selling the former Schalke 04 and FC Basel superstar.
A 56-cap international with Switzerland, Embolo has been one of the Bundesliga’s most consistent goalscorers in recent seasons, though the striker now looks set to sign for Monaco much to the dismay of West Ham, who recently missed out on landing Danjuma.
Reports revealed earlier this week that David Moyes pulled the plug on a deal to sign the Netherlands international after doubts were raised over the Villarreal star’s temperament and his ability on the ball, concerns that called off the exciting transfer.
Indeed, West Ham are set on signing an attacker this summer, and missing out on Embolo to Monaco will be another huge blow for the east London side given how ideal the Bundesliga star would be for the Hammers, with the Swiss star last season bagging 11 goals in all competitions.
Following this news, it appears that West Ham are now back at square one, with Moyes slowly running out of time to find a new starting striker for next season, something supporters are desperate to see at the London Stadium ahead of what could be another exciting year for the Hammers.
West Ham could face no chance at beating Monaco to Embolo signing
Labelled as a ‘terrific’ striker with a similar playing style to Michail Antonio by Don Hutchinson during Euro 2020, it’s no wonder why Embolo is viewed by many as the perfect attacker for West Ham, yet with Monaco now launching a bid to sign the Swiss star, the Irons could be out of the race.
After all, Monaco are likely to play UEFA Champions League football next season, and Embolo would be tempted to play in Europe’s top club competition rather than a year of UEFA Europa Conference League football with West Ham, a step that could be seen as a backwards one for the striker.
