According to Sky Sports, West Ham are not far off from striking a deal with Sassuolo over the signing of Newcastle target Gianluca Scamacca.

What’s the story?

Well, Sky Sports believe the east Londoners have offered £34m for the Italy international, although Sassuolo are requesting £42.6m for their talisman.

Clearly, there is a difference of just £8.6m, so West Ham really aren’t far away from satisfying the Serie A side’s demands.

Discussions are continuing between West Ham and Sassuolo, with those talks described as positive by Sky Sports.

West Ham are also in talks with Chelsea over a deal for Armando Broja, although it remains to be seen if David Moyes signs both strikers.

Newcastle are also said to be interested in Scamacca, so perhaps West Ham’s discussions with Chelsea are taking place in case the Magpies pinch the Sassuolo No.91 from them.

Interest in the 23-year-old comes after he scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A appearances last season, in a campaign which also saw him become Italy’s No.9 at international level.

Scamacca – who has been described as “incredible” – has even drawn comparisons to Robert Lewandowski, which is quite the compliment.

West Ham & Newcastle may end up sharing targets

Interestingly, Newcastle also have a genuine interest in Broja as well as Scamacca, so it is entirely possible that Eddie Howe and Moyes end up sharing their striker targets.

If that does happen, neither can complain – both forwards are exceptional players.

Broja looks like a potential star of the future, putting his name up in lights after scoring nine goals during a season-long loan at Southampton last term.

At the age of just 20, the Albanian also possesses the brute power of a seasoned professional.

Scamacca is a similarly physical player, and both certainly know where the back of the net is.

If Moyes and Howe end up getting one each, there can surely be no complaints.
