Tottenham will reportedly increase their interest this January in signing Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio, with Arsenal also chasing the Spanish international.
According to CalcioMercato, Antonio Conte is looking to rival the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool for Asensio’s signature, with the 26-year-old winger set to leave Madrid in 2023 as the playmaker’s contract comes to an end next summer.
With a release clause worth €700m (£626m) according to Sports Illustrated, Asensio is one of the highest-rated players on Madrid’s books. However, signs are all suggesting that the winger will soon leave the club after a lack of contract talks in recent weeks to keep the Mallorca-born superstar at the club.
As a result, there’s a good chance that Asensio could leave Madrid in the January transfer window, and Tottenham are looking to beat their Premier League rivals to the Spanish international, with a potential signing seemingly on the cards for the 26-year-old.

A key member behind three of Madrid’s UEFA Champions League triumphs in recent years, Asensio will be quite the coup for many top clubs in Europe this winter, with FC Barcelona and Newcastle United also chasing the winger as we slowly approach the January transfer window.
Indeed, Madrid could make quite the profit on Asensio even with just six months remaining on his deal by the time January rolls around. Yet for Tottenham, signing the winger makes little sense given how much depth Conte’s side have in their attack for this season.
Tottenham should work on signing other players rather than Asensio

Tottenham went big this summer on the signing of Richardson, and with Dejan Kulusevski set to be brought in on a permanent basis at the end of this season according to Fabrizio Romano, adding Asensio to the mix makes little sense for Spurs, despite the Spaniard’s obvious qualities.
With centre-back depth a potential issue as well as identifying a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, Conte and Fabio Paratici have bigger issues at hand in the squad than adding a fifth quality attacker to the team, which could throw off the balance of one of the Premier League’s most reliable forward lines.
