Southampton were linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Kevin Wimmer last week.

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Southampton right-back Cedric Soares, according to The Mirror.

Soares has been linked with a string of clubs in recent months, with Juventus among them according to The Sun on Sunday.

And given that Tottenham expected to lose Kyle Walker to Manchester City in the coming weeks, it was perhaps only a matter of time before Spurs’ name was mentioned as well.

The report claims Southampton are considering offering Soares a second new deal in less than a year in a bid to ward off suitors, although a move to a club like Tottenham or Juventus, who can each offer Champions League football next season, could be hard for the player to ignore.

The Mirror recently credited Southampton with an interest in Spurs centre-back Kevin Wimmer, and it is possible that the London side could offer the Austrian’s services as part of any deal.

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino has previously raided his former club to sign Victor Wanyama, while Toby Alderweireld impressed on loan with the Saints before moving to White Hart Lane.

Soares, who won Euro 2016 with Portugal last summer, was a teammate of Eric Dier at Sporting CP.
