Southampton are reportedly keen on Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer.
Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer looks dejected
According to The Mirror, Southampton want to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer this summer – but won’t go anywhere close to the £20million asking price.
Wimmer, 24, joined Spurs from Bundesliga outfit Koln in the summer of 2015, with Mauricio Pochettino landing him to provide cover for Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

So far, the Austrian international has made just 15 Premier League appearances in two seasons, and even when Pochettino switched to play three centre backs, Eric Dier got the nod instead of Wimmer.
Now, many expect Wimmer to move on this summer in search of first-team football elsewhere, but a stay in the Premier League could be a possibility, with The Mirror claiming that Southampton are interested.

The Saints sold Jose Fonte to West Ham United in January and lost Virgil van Dijk to injury, leaving Maya Yoshida and Jack Stephens to see out the season as their first-choice centre back pairing given Martin Caceres’ lack of impact.
Despite moving on from manager Claude Puel last week, Southampton could still make moves in the transfer market, and are now keen to make a move for Wimmer.

However, it’s noted that Tottenham want a fee of £20million for their bit-part defender, and Southampton won’t be making a concrete move for the player until Daniel Levy lowers his asking price.
Intriguingly, it’s added that Wimmer would not be targeted as a replacement for in-demand defender Van Dijk, with Southampton instead looking to pair them together next season – and Spurs may well be keen to enter negotiations over a deal as they look to raise funds for their own moves.
