Todd Kane is set to leave Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers with Sunderland interested in signing the experienced right-back, as reported by London Football News.

With Conor McLaughlin gone already and out-of-contract fan favourite Luke O’Nien set to follow him out the door, a new right-back is a must for Lee Johnson’s Sunderland.

With the transfer window set to swing open, the Black Cats are going to battle with League One rivals Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth for the signature of 27-year-old Kane.

The former Chelsea youngster has 12 months left on his QPR contract.

And Rangers are expected to sell after Kane lost his starting berth to Osman Kakay during the final few weeks of the Championship season.

Todd Kane – straight into Sunderland XI

The Cambridgeshire-born full-back, who nearly joined Sunderland’s north east neighbours Middlesbrough in 2019, Kane would be expected to slot immediately into Johnson’s starting XI at the Stadium of Light.

Alongside McLaughlin and O’Nien, Wolves loanee Dion Sanderson is set to depart with his short-term deal coming to an end.

The Black Cats had hoped to sign Sanderson permanently for £2 million but, following their play-off semi-final defeat to Lincoln City, those dreams are all but over.

Kane is not the only right-back linked with a move to Wearside.

Sunderland are also reportedly interested in the versatile Aberdeen defender Ross McCrorie.
