Aberdeen legend Willie Miller can see no reason why the Scottish Premiership outfit should accept an £800,000 bid from Sunderland for Ross McCrorie, speaking to the Evening Express.

After a difficult season at Pittodrie – one that ended with Saturday’s 4-0 shellacking at the hands of Rangers – the summer transfer window will bring another set of challenges.

The industrious Lewis Ferguson is a man in demand once more while McCrorie, just five months after joining on a permanent deal from Rangers, is already attracting interest from south of the border.

The Daily Record believes Sunderland are weighing up an £800,000 bid for former Scotland U21 international McCrorie.

But, with the ink still drying on the three-year contract he signed as recently as January, Miller can’t understand why the Dons would consider selling McCrorie so soon – even if £800,000 would earn the club a substantial profit.

“There appears to be real interest from England in Aberdeen’s midfield as League One Sunderland are also reportedly considering an £800,000 bid for Scotland U21 captain Ross McCrorie,” says Miller, a key member of the Alex Ferguson-led Dons side that famously beat Real Madrid in the Cup Winners’ Cup final.

“Ultimately, it’s a compliment to Ferguson and McCrorie that teams are tracking them. As they are both under long-term contracts at Pittodrie, however, it isn’t an issue for Aberdeen.

“Aberdeen have done their business by getting Ferguson and McCrorie both secured on long deals. Ferguson and McCrorie both appear to be happy and, when that’s the case, you don’t blink until the amount of money is realistic.

“These two midfielders are the future of the club – so Aberdeen shouldn’t be tempted by a paltry offer.

“We all know in the real world these things happen if the offer is high enough. But, until that’s the case, I don’t think we’ll see the club biting in any way.”

A tenacious and versatile player who can adapt to a host of positions, you can see why Sunderland are keen to bring McCrorie to the Stadium of Light – especially with Black Cats utility man Dion Sanderson expected to return to Wolves when his loan deal expires.

Securing promotion to the Championship – the Wearsiders take on Lincoln City in the play-off semi-finals tomorrow night – would give their coffers a timely boost ahead of the transfer window too.
