According to Calciomercato, Tottenham can now sign Nahitan Nandez for less than his release clause after Tommaso Giulini gave ‘his word’.
What’s the story?
Well, Tottenham have been given a big boost in their pursuit of the 49-cap Uruguay international.
Calciomercato relay quotes from Nandez’s agent, Pablo Betancur, who claims that Giulini – President of Cagliari – has agreed to let the 25-year-old leave for less than his release clause.
Betancur said: “Giulini promised me and the player to do everything possible to get away in the transfer market. January. The president has given us his word, there is a clause but the President has said he will lower the price and let him go.”
Calciomercato state that Nandez’s release clause is €36m (£30m).
The Italian news outlet add that Nandez was also wanted by Nuno Espirito Santo, before he was sacked and replaced by Antonio Conte.
By the sounds of it, Tottenham remain interested in the Cagliari No.18 despite the managerial change made by Daniel Levy.
What can Nahitan Nandez bring to Tottenham?

In our view, Conte will absolutely love Nandez, as he’s full of energy.
The South American has been described as ‘inexhaustible‘ and also someone who leaves every last drop of sweat out on the pitch.
To us, Nandez sounds like the ideal Conte player.
Similar to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, he is also someone who can chip in with a goal or two to help out the team.

Last season, Nandez scored two goals and provided three assists in 32 Serie A appearances.
At 25, he would also be a fine long-term signing for Tottenham, as he’s yet to hit his peak age.
By the sounds of it, Nandez has Cagliari’s blessing to leave, so it’s now up to Spurs to meet the Italian side’s asking price.
Keep an eye on this saga. If Tottenham truly want Nandez, a deal for the Uruguayan seems fairly straightforward to complete.
