Real Sociedad are reportedly interested in signing FC Barcelona striker Memphis Depay as a replacement for Alexander Isak, with Manchester United and Tottenham both chasing the Netherlands international as well.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga side are looking to go big on a replacement for the Swedish international, who this week signed for Newcastle United in a club-record £63m move in what could be one of the most surprising deals of the summer transfer window.

Isak looked set to remain with Sociedad after a quiet summer for the 22-year-old attacker, however, the Magpies swooped in with a late offer to sign the youngster, with the Basque side now looking for a top-tier replacement, with Depay now in their sights.

The 28-year-old attacker has been linked with an exit from Barcelona all summer with reports even suggesting that Depay’s contract will be terminated once the forward has agreed on a deal with a club over a transfer, with Tottenham and United both reportedly interested in the striker.

Depay was on the verge of signing for Juventus but a potential move collapsed at the final hurdle, and now, the former Olympique Lyonnais star is on Sociedad’s radar, with the Basque side a potentially great club to sign the Barcelona outcast.

Indeed, whilst there is interest from Tottenham and United, Sociedad have proven to be a fantastic side for some big-name players to help find their feet when lost in their careers, and with an obvious spot in their starting XI now free and the money to match his wages there, Depay should really consider signing for the La Liga side.

Depay impressed in his first year in Spain with Barcelona, yet given the club’s horrific financial situation, an exit is arguably what the striker needs for the betterment of his career, and Sociedad would be a fantastic next club for the Netherlands international.

After all, Sociedad are competing in Europe in the form of the UEFA Europa League, and Depay will get to still play in a top league ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the Dutch star is expected to lead Louis Van Gaal’s side in a competition that Holland will be expected to perform well in.
